Via San Vitale Entrance

The Piazza is best known for its market spread over 16 cloisters, open daily, where you can buy fruits, vegetables, bread, fish, and ready meals. There are also numerous bars, trattorias, and restaurants with various outdoor solutions and where you can enjoy the delights of Bolognese cuisine as well as fish and more.

The two towers are commonly recognized as a symbol of Bologna and stand in the heart of the city at the entry point of the ancient Via Emilia. Built during the Middle Ages, they had a military function (signaling and defense) and represented, with their grandeur, the social prestige of the family responsible for the construction.
Of the original hundred today more than twenty remain, but of another fifty-two now gone, we know the precise location. A veritable thicket, enclosed in the first and oldest circle of walls, protected the settlement of about 20 hectares.
